The DGVT publishing house is part of the German Society for Behavioural Therapy (DGVT), the nationwide professional association for psychotherapy, counselling and psychosocial care. wegewerk was commissioned to redesign and relaunch the publisher's website.

For the relaunch of the DGVT publishing house, we designed and implemented a TYPO3 website that focuses primarily on the shop. We completely revamped the shop, which offers an extensive selection of books, magazines, films and brochures in digital formats for download and as physical products for order. The different variants are identified by icons. With such a wide range of products with different variants, it was necessary to create a classification system that would make it easy to find the material people were looking for. To achieve this, we used lists to categorise the individual product groups and topics, which can be filtered by users and are also easy for the editorial team to manage.

A shop system with separate access for members and guests

The website's target audience is professionals, students and interested parties who can access specialist material by placing an order in the shop. As DGVT members receive discounted prices, we have designed a members' area that works with an interface to the member management database. Non-members can also create a guest account, place orders in the shop and access the materials they have purchased.

When redesigning the shop, the challenge was to ensure that access codes already in circulation from purchases made on the old website would continue to be accessible. However, we were able to solve this with QR codes. Some of the books and magazines contain codes that provide access to supplementary material on the website. Previously, these were exclusively ten-digit alphanumeric codes that had to be entered manually. In the new system, both the classic code and a corresponding QR code are generated automatically. Editors only need to create a new data record in the backend – the code is assigned and the QR code is generated automatically.

Anything but a traditional publishing website

We also redesigned the site visually and tailored it to DGVT-Verlag. The goal: a lively and colourful product. To achieve this, we adopted the logo and corporate colours and rethought the rest of the design concept. As a result, the shop stands out visually from other shop systems. Thanks to the new classifications, the site is now more visually compact, offers numerous new features and makes editors' work easier.

Efficient editorial work

Magazine subscriptions offer automatic access to new issues. When a subscription is ordered, new publications from the publisher are activated directly in the respective member or guest area. Users do not need to do anything else – access is granted without any additional effort. Editors simply upload the new issues, which are then automatically assigned to the corresponding accounts. We have also simplified the process for the editorial team by allowing them to customise the teasers on the website. The publisher's top titles can be highlighted with just a few clicks using stickers.
