From June to September 2025, we supported the relaunch of the Kiel Institute's TYPO3 website. The Kiel Institute is a renowned research institute belonging to the Leibniz Association. Previously known as ‘IfW – Kiel Institute for the World Economy’, the brand was further developed as part of a strategic realignment.

This included upgrading the TYPO3 instance from version 11 to version 13. As part of the institute's rebranding, a new design was also implemented. While this was supplied to us, we were responsible for the technical implementation and seamless integration into the existing TYPO3 system. As part of the rebranding, the Kiel Institute not only received a new domain, but also a modern, completely revamped corporate design, which we implemented technically while maintaining the same content structure.

Complex design, tailor-made technology

The design specifications were demanding: numerous font combinations, many teaser and grid variants, and individually designed modules. In order to implement this creative diversity technically, we developed special container and grid elements that the editorial team can use flexibly. In addition, we continue to maintain the interface to the internal publication system, through which numerous publications are automatically transferred to TYPO3, eliminating the need for duplicate maintenance, as well as the form system that enables registration.

Quality in detail

Accessibility also remained a key issue. While the visual design was implemented by the design agency, we provided advice and support. Despite the very tight timeframe of just three months, we managed to complete the project on schedule with a result that is both technically and visually impressive: a modern, high-performance and future-proof TYPO3 website that provides a strong foundation for the Kiel Institute's new brand image.
